Microsoft Teams Direct Routing vs Calling Plan in the UK: which is right for you?
Direct Routing keeps Teams as the UI and brings your own carrier — typically 60-80% cheaper. Calling Plan is convenient but locks you to Microsoft pricing.
When Calling Plan is fine
Under 10 Teams users, no out-of-hours calling, no concerns about per-minute overage. Microsoft's UK Domestic Calling Plan is £6/user/month + 1,200 inclusive minutes; overage is £0.06/min.
When Direct Routing wins
10+ users, or one user that bills 1,000 min/month, or a need for UK-domestic emergency calling configuration, or a desire to use your own carrier for fraud protection. Note: Silux Call does not currently offer Teams Direct Routing; this article explains the options in general.
The wiring
Direct Routing needs an SBC, a voice routing policy, user assignment and a UK 999 emergency-calling policy; your Direct Routing carrier will provide these.
